I was lucky to enjoy several months of leave to bond with my newborn, but when my wife and I returned to work, we found childcare inaccessible. We paid hundreds of dollars to join several daycare waitlists, followed by sticker shock at the cost of hiring a private nanny. Then we discovered nanny shares: families pay less and nannies earn more. Everyone wins! Problem solved?
The reality of starting a nanny share is like herding cats. A few companies dedicated to nanny shares had tried—and failed—to serve this market. But because an adequate alternative didn't exist, my wife ended up cutting her working hours (and we still hired a private nanny part-time). Frustrated, I believed that a dedicated nanny share solution needed to exist whose bottom line was to serve families. I'm building the Bananny web and mobile apps to match compatible families and improve nanny share outcomes.
